2020 Skoda Superb facelift unveiled, here in Q3

The facelifted Skoda Superb has been unveiled overnight in Bratislava, Slovakia.

All models in the revised Superb range feature restyled bumpers, narrower LED headlights, full LED tail-lights, Skoda lettering at the back, and a deeper grille.

Skoda has also changed the design of the Superb's 18- and 19-inch alloy wheels, added two colours (Crystal Black and Race Blue) to the palette, and introduced double slat bars for some models.

On the inside, changes include revised trim pieces and stitching, added chrome on some variants and a divided storage compartment underneath the wagon's false floor.

With the updated Superb, matrix LED headlights, predictive cruise control, and Emergency Assist, which automatically steers the car safely to the roadside in the case of an emergency, are available on a Skoda model for the first time.

Top-spec models come with a customisable digital instrumentation display, a 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment and navigation system with gesture and voice control, Wi-Fi hotspot, and a Canton sound system.

In Europe, the Superb is available with three turbo-diesel engines: a 88kW 1.6-litre, and 110kW and 140kW 2.0-litre mills.

There are also three turbocharged petrol options: a 110kW 1.5-litre, and a 2.0-litre making either 140kW or 200kW.

iV

The new Superb iV is the company's first plug-in hybrid. Along with the electric Citigo-e iV, it will launch Skoda's new electrified iV sub-brand.

The plug-in hybrid pairs a 115kW turbocharged 1.4-litre petrol engine with an 85kW electric motor and a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. System outputs is rated at 160kW and 400Nm.

A 13kWh lithium-ion battery is positioned underneath the rear seats, and gives the car a 55 kilometre all-electric driving range under the WLTP test cycle. Overall fuel economy is said to be 1.7L/100km.

Available in both hatch and wagon body styles, the Superb iV includes a sound generator to ensure pedestrians and cyclists are able to hear the car in EV mode.

Owners can check the charge status or control the air-conditioning system remotely via a smartphone app. The Superb iV can also be specified with trailer assist, and a surround-view camera system.

Scout

With its 15mm taller suspension, underbody protection for the engine and undercarriage, and standard all-wheel drive, the new Scout wagon variant brings a little bit off-road ability to the Superb range.

The Scout also features unique bumper designs, chrome-plated roof rails and window frames, a new off-road driving mode, 18-inch alloy wheels, and plastic protectors for the wheel arches, sills and lower doors.

On the inside, the Scout is fitted with faux wood trim, heated front seats with Scout logos, and unique welcome screens.

Options include larger 19-inch rims, heated rear seats, Dynamic Chassis Control, and a sleep package with larger headrests and a blanket.

Australia

According to Skoda Australia, the facelifted Superb range is scheduled to arrive in local showrooms during the third quarter of 2019.

For the Australian market, the updated Superb range will have the Volkswagen Group's new MIB3 infotainment system, which supports wireless Apple CarPlay, but employ carryover powertrains, effectively ruling out the plug-in hybrid iV model.

The Subaru Outback-rivalling Scout is also not on the cards for Australia.
