Renault EZ-Pod concept unveiled

According to Renault, the EZ-Pod is "an exploratory electric and autonomous vehicle for on-demand travel over short distances".

It is envisaged as a vehicle for getting people or goods to their final destination in densely populated areas, such as a city centre or housing estate, or within a closed environment, like a parking garage, airport, hotel complex, shopping centre or campus.

As such, the EZ-Pod has a small footprint of around three square metres, and can only travel a low speeds.

Renault says the EZ-Pod, when travelling at under 6km/h, could be be authorised to operate on pedestrian-only streets or footpaths, allowing it to drop off or pick up people with limited mobility, or passengers dealing with shopping, luggage or unruly kids.

Built on the Twizy chassis, the EZ-Pod is equipped with a forward-facing camera and LIDAR unit, short- and long-range radars at the rear, and two antennas and a GPS receiver in the roof.

The EZ-Pod has a plain, but colourful cabin, which is said to be easy to clean.

There are two swivelling seats made from structured plastic, two information screens, an intelligent ambient lighting system, and an eco-friendly processed linen floor mat.
