2019 Toyota Granvia revealed, Tarago axed

Toyota has revealed the all-new Granvia people mover, which will arrive in Australia before the end of the year to replace the ageing Tarago.

Pitched as a "luxury eight-seater wagon aimed at hospitality, corporate and family buyers", the Granvia is to the HiAce what the Volkswagen Multivan is to the Transporter.

It'll be offered with one turbo-diesel powertrain (displacement and outputs aren't confirmed just yet) and two trim levels, with available features including powered rear sliding doors, second-row captain's chairs, and leather-accented upholstery.

All models will also feature a full suite of driver assistance and safety aids, including autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and (daytime) cyclist detection and adaptive cruise control.

Other highlights include the availability of Toyota's latest infotainment system with up to four USB Ports and a total of 12 speakers.

"Whether you are in need of a five-star hotel shuttle, corporate transport for senior executives or just a large luxury family wagon, the new Granvia fits the bill," said Sean Hanley, Toyota Australia's vice president for sales and marketing.

The Granvia will land in Australian showrooms during the fourth quarter of 2019, and will take over from the ageing Tarago which will be discontinued at the end of this year – though for a short period both vehicles will be sold alongside each other.

Four generations of Tarago have gone on sale in Australia since it first launched locally in 1983, with 104,229 sales recorded locally through to the end of 2018.

While pricing for the Granvia is yet to be announced, the MY19 Tarago currently starts at $45,490 (+ORCs) for the entry-level GLi, topping out at $65,261 for the flagship Ultima. Our guess is that the Granvia will fall somewhere in the $50,000 and $70,000 bracket.
