2020 Skoda Superb leaked

The revised 2020 Skoda Superb has leaked online, with a new set of images giving us a first look at the updated liftback version of the company's flagship passenger car.

Published by China's Xcar, and republished by Carscoops, the set of four images show the liftback/sedan version from several angles, showing the subtle design revisions in store for the mid-life refresh.

Up front the headlights appear slimmer than before, and will be available with Matrix LED technology for the first time. The bumpers are different, too, as are the alloy wheels on the vehicle in the images.

At the rear, the revised LED tail-lights are joined by a thin chrome strip, while 'SKODA' lettering proudly adorns the bootlid in place of the company's logo. The rear bumper has been redesigned, too.

While not demonstrated in these images, the Skoda Superb will offer 'sweeping' dynamic indicators for the first time, a feature commonly used elsewhere in the Volkswagen Group, particularly by the Audi luxury brand.

According to Xcar, the design changes have made the Superb 8mm longer and 1mm wider, though the dimensional changes are likely just external, and won't translate to any gains in space on the inside.

In China, the Superb will be offered with two turbocharged petrol engines – a 1.4 TSI and a 2.0 TSI – both paired to a seven-speed DSG.

However, elsewhere in the world, the Superb will offer a range of carryover powertrains (potentially with revisions to make it compliant with new WLTP emissions regulations), including three- and four-cylinder turbo petrol and diesel motors. The launch of the facelifted model should also coincide with the release of a plug-in hybrid version of the Superb, which will become the company's first electrified model.

Front-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive available depending on engine variant and trim level. Stay tuned for further details when the car is officially revealed on May 23.

Australia

Following its debut later this week, the updated Superb is due to land in local showrooms during the third quarter of 2019.

Skoda Australia has indicated the revised range will offer carryover powertrains – ruling out the PHEV version for our market – while introducing the Volkswagen Group's new MIB3 infotainment interface with wireless Apple CarPlay.

The local arm has also ruled out the new crossover-styled Scout wagon variant which will be available in Europe as part of the updated range. Stay tuned for our coverage of the full reveal later this week.
