Toyota Supra pricing leaked: $100,000 drive-away for top model

The price list for the new Toyota Supra has appeared online and it’s not as cheap as forecast.

The new Toyota Supra flagship will cost in excess of $100,000 drive-away according to indicative pricing published earlier than planned on the company's local website.

UPDATE, 20/5/19: Toyota Australia has officially confirmed pricing and specs for the new Supra. Read more here.

The entry level GT version is going to cost $84,990 plus on-roads and the GTS is $10,000 more, at $94,990 plus on-roads.

By the time registration, stamp duty, third party insurance and dealer delivery fees are covered, the top of the range Supra will push beyond the $100,000 mark.

Both versions are powered by the same BMW-sourced 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder turbo (250kW and 500Nm) paired to an eight-speed auto with a claimed 0 to 100kmh time of 4.4 seconds. No manual transmission is available.

There are initially only two options: $2500 for Alcantara/leather trim (GTS) and $2500 for matte grey paint (GTS).

There are conflicting reports about how many cars are coming to Australia.

Some dealer sources say the allocation has been slashed from 250 to 100 cars for the remainder of this year.

However, once Toyota realised the price had been leaked, it confirmed the following details.

Due to production limitations and global demand, the cars will initially be imported in batches of 100. Australia is due to get a total of 300 vehicles over the next 12 months.

To help distribute the cars fairly, Toyota Australia will allocate the cars using a ballot system.

Customers will initially be asked to place a $1000 deposit to reserve a place in the queue before making it to the next round, which will then require them to place a further $4000 deposit for a total of $5000.

While the $100,000 price is more than what most enthusiasts were expecting, the sales and marketing boss of Toyota Australia, Sean Hanley, said he is “delighted” it wasn’t any dearer.

“The Supra should be compared with vehicles in a much higher price bracket including top-end European sports coupes – it really is that good,” Mr Hanley said in a media statement.

“I am certain anyone who experiences it will appreciate the engineering, passion and precision that has gone into building what we believe is one of the best value, most engaging drivers’ cars on sale in the world today”.

“With … only approximately 300 cars available in the first 12 months, we have also developed a new online sales process to ensure a fair allocation of vehicles and provide customers with an exclusive experience.”

The Toyota executive added that the Supra is “one of the most exciting cars we’ve had in our lineup for more than 20 years” and interest in the new model was “unprecedented with thousands of registrations of interest”.

“The new centralised online sales process handled by a dedicated Supra concierge will ensure we keep customers updated at every step of the way and provide a bespoke and very personal experience, which is fitting for a vehicle of the Supra’s calibre,” said Mr Hanley.

Toyota says successful customers “can expect to receive confirmation of their reservation within 24 hours before receiving a phone call from Toyota’s dedicated Supra concierge. They will then be guided by the concierge throughout the purchase process”.

Those who miss out in the first round, will receive information about timing for “future reservation windows when they are determined” and that “multiple rounds are planned within the first year, timed to align with further availability of cars”, says Toyota.
