Rolls-Royce reveals Champagne Chest

Sir, would you like me to bring around the Champagne Chest? Sounds silly, but if you're a Rolls-Royce owner it's a factory option.

Rolls-Royce dabbles in a world most manufacturers couldn't dream of. At some brands, leather is considered a luxury option. At others, you can have that leather quilted, or stitched in all manner of crazy colours.

At Rolls-Royce, that's just run-of-the-mill. At Rolls-Royce, it takes something seriously special to register as a special options. Something like this Champagne Chest, described as an "Epicurean Delight".

The case has enough champagne and glasses for four people, and is made of Tudor Oak wood. Press a button, and the lid pops up to become a Tudor Oak wooden table with stainless steel inlays. There are four embroidered napkins hiding beneath the lid, complete with the RR motif to remind passengers exactly what it is you're driving.

The chassis of the box (or should that be architecture of luxury?) is made of machined aluminium and carbon-fibre, while the side tables are designed to hold your choice of hors d'oeuvre. Need something more, erm, tailored to the job?

We're going to quote Rolls-Royce directly here:

A caviar configuration is available, whereby two thermal caviar caissons, each accommodating a 30g tin, are complemented by two blini caissons proving an irresistible accompaniment to chilled champagne.

Two exquisite Mother-of-Pearl spoons with anodised aluminium handles are housed magnetically at the top of the hammock, designed so as not to impair the delicate flavour of the caviar.

Luxury like this doesn't come cheap. In the UK, you'll pay £37,000 excluding local taxes. That's equivalent to $68,800 in Australia.
