2020 Ford Focus ST wagon unveiled

Ford of Europe has revealed a more practical alternative to the Focus ST hatch, but it's reserved for overseas markets unfortunately.

As with the hatch, the Focus ST wagon is available with either a 140kW/400Nm 2.0-litre EcoBlue diesel engine, or a 206kW/420Nm 2.3-litre turbocharged petrol mill.

Both engines come standard with a six-speed manual, while the petrol is available with a seven-speed automatic as well.

As only the front wheels are driven, the petrol ST has an electronic limited-slip differential with hydraulic clutches, while the diesel has a brake-based torque vectoring system.

All ST variants benefit from a unique steering knuckle setup, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres, larger brakes at both ends, revised suspension, and a faster electric power steering system.

An optional Performance Pack for the petrol ST adds continuously controlled damping, rev-matching for the manual transmission, a track driving mode, and launch control.

Standard features include Recaro sports seats up front, an aluminium gear knob, alloy pedals, branded scuff plates, and 18-inch alloy wheels, with 19-inch rims also available.

Ford has yet to reveal the ST wagon performance figures, but it will likely be a mite slower than the hatch. The 2.3-litre ST hatch has a predicted 0-100km/h time of under six seconds.

Australia

The Focus ST wagon will be available in Europe from the third quarter of this year.

When the ST hatch was unveiled earlier this year, Ford Australia told Drive the new model would be available locally from early 2020, but only in petrol-powered hatch form.
