Aston Martin AM-003 ‘over-subscribed’ already

Aston Martin has been inundated with interest for its upcoming AM-RB 003 hybrid hypercar, well before it commences production in 2021.

Just 500 of the company's £1 million ($1.85m) baby will be produced, with demand already outstripping supply just months after the concept was revealed a this year's Geneva motor show.

"We now have the task of allocating to our customers from an ever-growing list," said Andy Palmer, Aston Martin's CEO, in the company's financial results report for the first quarter of this year – first reported by the UK's Autocar.

Developed in collaboration with the Red Bull Racing F1 team, the AM-RB 003 sits below the Valkyrie in the company's line-up, and will draw on a new twin-turbo V6 hooked up to a hybrid system.

Like its more potent sibling, the 003 (or 'Son of Valkyrie') will sport a carbon-fibre structure, and should be as good in a straight line as it is on the track.

According to Autocar's report, Aston Martin is expecting the second half of 2019 to be a "major driver of profitability", with numerous special editions planned to go on sale later this year.

The company's financial report also detailed that work on the first production trial version of the all-new DBX crossover began on April 15.

We've already seen the heavily-camouflaged and rough-looking prototype recently (above), so it will be interesting to see how the design of the exterior and interior is refined with the near-production prototype.
