De Tomaso plans to launch new model at Goodwood Festival of Speed

A new model, codenamed Project P, will be unveiled in July as part of the brand's 60th anniversary celebrations.

Details about the new De Tomaso Project P are few and far between, but it is being developed by the team behind the Apollo Arrow and Intensa Emozione.

The brand revealed its redesigned logo overnight, and announced the Project P will be unveiled on July 4, UK time, at the 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

According to Norman Choi, De Tomaso's chairman, the new model is being designed and engineered by "the same core team behind Apollo [Intensa Emozione]".

This could see the new De Tomaso share a platform with the Intensa Emozione (below), as well as use a version of its 582kW/760Nm 6.3-litre naturally-aspirated V12 engine.

In 2014 De Tomaso was bought for €1 million ($1.6 million) by Ideal Team Ventures, a Hong Kong-based company registered in the Virgin Islands.

Ideal Team Venutres also owns Apollo Automobil, a German sports car maker based in Bavaria and previously known as Gumpert Sportwagenmanufaktur.

Ryan Berris, De Tomaso's general manager, says, "Since the acquisition of De Tomaso we have been secretively working behind the scenes on a world-class revival strategy with the intention to go public with our efforts for the 60th anniversary".

Berris adds, "[Founder] Alejandro’s journey was never properly told and we feel his name should be commonly recognised amongst greats such as Enzo Ferrari and Ferruccio Lamborghini."

The marque was founded in 1959 by Argentinian race car driver Alejandro De Tomaso, and hit its peak with the Mangusta and Pantera models in the late 60s and early 70s.

Since then the company has fallen on hard times, and has gone through numerous hands, including Maserati and motorcycle firm Moto Guzzi. De Tomaso passed away in 2003.
