Toyota Rukus attracts younger buyers

Recent sales data has found the new Toyota Rukus is bought predominately by 20 to 30 year-olds. Showroom figures found 55 percent of all Rukus buyers were aged between 20 and 40. This is interesting when you take into account the Toyota brand usually sells to older buyers.

Toyota has said a majority of those 55 percent were new to the brand, buying a Toyota for their first time, often stepping out of a rival make and model. Scott Thompson, Toyota Australia corporate manager of marketing, said the data was taken from the first two months of sales. Thompson added,

"More than 40 per cent of Rukus customers are from Generation X who are now in their 30s and 40s, and there is healthy demand from motorists in their 20s. Dealer feedback confirms this is due to the distinctive Rukus package - its in-your-face styling, compact exterior, roomy interior and plenty of punch from its engine."

Thompson also indicated the figures showed an equal presence of both male and female interest in the model. Interestingly, the data showed there was worthy interest with the older market too. Thompson pointed out that this could be due to the Rukus being seen as a modern alternative to the Corolla wagon.

Toyota Rukus prices start at $27,490 and can be optioned up and personalised in various ways through Build 1, Build 2 and Build 3 packages. For more information on these options and a detailed review, click here.
