2016-18 Mazda BT-50 recalled over two issues

Mazda has followed Ford in recalling its ute over faulty brakes.

Mazda has recalled the 2016-18 BT-50 over two separate brake issues, following in the footsteps of Ford and the Ranger.

Where Ford issued separate recall notices for the Ranger, Mazda has bundled the BT-50s affected into one basket.

The first issue surrounds the front brake hose. If cars have covered more than 45,000km and have been used on roads requiring the full range of suspension travel, there's a risk a hose could rupture.

The second issue relates to the front brake calipers. Brakes with the wrong caliper material could have been fitted, causing the caliper to crack.

In both cases, a brake system warning lamp will illuminate in the instrument binnacle. There's a risk brake performance will be affected by both issues, putting drivers and other roads users at a higher risk of accident.

A total of 30,505 units are included in the campaign – a VIN list is attached here.

Mazda will contact owners of the affected vehicles and advise them to organise a free fix with their nearest dealer.
