RS5 v Cayman GTS v Exige 430 drag race – video

What happens when you line up an Audi RS5, a Lotus Exige Cup 430, and a Porsche 718 Cayman GTS on a runway for a quarter-mile drag race?

The UK's Top Gear decided to find out the answer, pitting the three very different performance cars against each other in a straight-line shootout.

Power in the Audi comes from a Porsche-developed 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 shared with the Panamera sedan, making a healthy 331kW and 600Nm, good for a claimed 0-100 sprint in 3.9 seconds.

The Lotus, meanwhile, draws upon a 3.5-litre supercharged V6 based on the unit commonly used in various Toyota models, rated at 320kW and 440Nm. Lotus claims a 3.3-second dash to triple figures.

Finally, the Porsche 718 Cayman GTS features a 2.5-litre turbocharged flat four, putting out 269kW and 430Nm. While the Porsche is a bit down on power, its quick-shifting PDK gearbox helps it accelerate from 0-100 in a claimed 4.1 seconds.
