2020 Porsche 911 Speedster pricing and specs

Porsche has priced its stunning 911 Speedster for Australia, confirming the 991.2 swansong is bound for our shores in the fourth quarter of 2019.

Based on a concept car from 2018, the Speedster will cost $604,800 before on-road costs in our market. Don't flinch at that price – at least, don't flinch too dramatically – because the sticker price includes a front axle lift and cruise control...

A grey-top windscreen tint and Porsche Communication Management infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both no-cost options.

Of course, the price also includes a healthy dose of exclusivity. Just 1948 examples of the car will be built, with a shorter windscreen and double-bubble cover for its manually-operated fabric roof.

Unlike the regular 911 range, the Speedster is powered by a naturally-aspirated 4.0-litre six-cylinder boxer engine developing 375kW of power at 8400rpm, and 470Nm of torque at 6250rpm. Do those numbers sound familiar? They should, the engine is nicked from the 991.2 GT3.

Capable of revving to 9000rpm, the engine propels the Speedster from 0-100km/h in 4.0 seconds and a top speed of 310km/h. Befitting its purist ethos, the Speedster is available only in rear-wheel drive and with a six-speed manual transmission.

The transmission can automatically blip the throttle when you're shifting down a gear though, in a nod to purists who maybe can't heel-and-toe.

There's also suspension that's 25mm lower than stock, a mechanical rear differential lock, torque vectoring, rear-wheel steering, ceramic composite brakes, and 20-inch centre-locking alloy wheels in satin black.

Globally just 1948 editions of the 911 Speedster will be made.
