Jaguar E-Pace Chequered Flag revealed, confirmed for Oz – UPDATE

New special edition SUV brings upgraded styling and specification for Jag's home market. An Australian introduction has been confirmed, with more details to come.

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has announced the E-Pace Chequered Flag special edition in its home market of Great Britain, bringing design and equipment enhancements.

UPDATE, 6/5/19: Jaguar Australia has confirmed it will be bringing the E-Pace Chequered Flag Down Under, with details of the revised MY20 range to be confirmed in the coming weeks.

Priced from £40,050 ($75,460), the limited-run E-Pace gets equipment like 10-way heated front seats, a heated R-Dynamic steering wheel, the 12.3-inch digital instrument binnacle, an Ebony Morzine headline, and the sporty R-Dynamic exterior package.

There's also LED headlights with signature J-blade daytime-running lights, the Black Exterior Pack, a powered tailgate, keyless entry, and the introduction of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for the 10.0-inch Touch Pro infotainment system.

UK buyers of the Chequered Flag edition have the choice of four powertrains – the 150PS (110kW) and 180PS (132kW) turbo-diesels with all-wheel drive, along with the 200PS (147kW) and 249PS (183kW) turbo petrols.

All versions are four-cylinder turbocharged units with all-wheel drive as standard.

In addition to the Chequered Flag edition, JLR has updated the entry-level D150 FWD manual variant (not available in Australia) to meet the Real Driving Emissions step 2 (RDE2) standard, which equates to reduction of 4% in Benefit In Kind (BIK) tax, and up £1400 ($2637.16) in tax savings for company drivers over a three-year period.

The E-Pace has quickly become the brand's top-selling model in its home market after just 12 months on sale, with 11,142 units finding home in the UK between April 2018 and March 2019.

Australia

Speaking with CarAdvice, JLR's local PR manager, James Scrimshaw, confirmed the Chequered Flag will be headed to Australia later this year as part of the revised MY20 E-Pace range. Further details will be revealed in the coming weeks.

As for local sales, the E-Pace saw 91 registrations for the month of April, making for a 7.0% share of the premium small SUV segment and a year-to-date (YTD) figure of 326 units – the latter 36.4% up on the same period last year.

The littlest Jag crossover was outgunned by the likes of the Audi Q2, BMW X1/X2, Mercedes-Benz GLA and Volvo XC40 in the sales race, though it is the brand's top seller locally, too.

April's figure of 91 units equated to more than half of Jaguar Australia's 147 registrations last month, well ahead of the XE (23 units), F-Pace (17 units) and I-Pace (12).
