2020 Chevrolet Camaro SS gets an emergency facelift

The Chevrolet Camaro SS can join the Ford Falcon and Subaru Tribeca in the pantheon of vehicles to have its physical appearance rectified not too long after going on sale.

For the 2019 model year facelift, which made its debut in April 2018, Chevrolet visually united the upper and lower grille portions of the SS by painting the space in between black, and moving the Chevrolet bow tie to this newly darkened section.

The result was challenging, to put it mildly, and the Camaro's fan base didn't hold back their thoughts on the matter.

By October last year, Chevrolet already had a solution on display with the Shock "concept" stepping out at the SEMA show in Las Vegas.

Steve Majoros, head of marketing for Chevrolet's passenger and crossover vehicles, said in a prepared statement: “Customers spoke, and we listened.

"The overwhelmingly positive reaction to the Shock’s stylised design helped prompt its transition from concept to production."

In the US, Chevrolet is also adding a new LT1 model to the range, which is now the cheapest V8-powered model in the Camaro range.

The new Camaro LT1 has a 339kW/617Nm 6.2-litre V8, a vented bonnet straight from the SS, and either a six-speed manual or 10-speed auto.

Other changes to the Camaro range include new 20-inch forged alloy wheel designs, a new Rally Green paint option, a 10-speed automatic for the 3.6-litre V6, and more personalisation options throughout the range.

The revised Camaro range, including the redesigned SS, goes on sale in the US from the third quarter of 2019.
