Fiat Fullback axed

Rebadged Mitsubishi Triton has been removed from the European range due to slow sales and upcoming emissions regulations.

The Fiat Fullback has been withdrawn from sale across Europe, leaving the company without a ute in a segment led by the likes of the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger.

Richard Chamberlain, head of Fiat Professional UK, told Auto Express "low sales volumes and the forthcoming Euro 6 diesel emissions legislation meant it was no longer viable for Fiat Professional to offer the Fullback".

The Fullback was launched in 2015, and was only ever sold in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Essentially a rebadged Mitsubishi Triton – sold in Europe as the L200 – its main points of differentiation were its restyled grille and new front bumper.

Hoping to boost sales, Fiat added a Cross model to the range in 2017 with a black grille, wheel arch protectors and side steps.

With the Fullback's demise, the Italian-American automaker no longer has a ute offering in Europe, but it does continue to sell the passenger car-based Fiat Toro and Strada in Latin America, and the Ram range of pickup trucks in North America.
