Porsche 911 GT2 RS topples Road America lap record

We know the Porsche 911 GT2 RS is fast. It set a Nurburgring lap record in 2017, lapping the Green Hell in just 6:47.3 with Lars Kern behind the wheel. Lamborghini has since taken it back, but that's besides the point...

Now, it's the quickest production car ever to lap Road America. It's a fast track, with just 14 corners in its 6.5km layout, allowing driver David Donohue to average 174km/h throughout the lap. That's fast.

Then again, with 515kW and 750Nm on tap from its turbocharged engine, it was never going to be slow.

The car was running production Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R N0 tyres, and conditions were clear, allowing Donohue to set the record in just two laps.

Along with the GT2 RS, Porsche took a GT3 RS along for the record attempt. With significantly less power than the GT2, it was 3.4 seconds slower. But we've attached the video below anyway, because the sound of the car's naturally-aspirated engine is something to behold.

Pop on some headphones, crank up the volume and enjoy.
