2019 Peugeot Expert pricing and specs

New mid-sized French van arrives with high levels of active safety tech and three powertrain options.

Peugeot Australia has kicked off its commercial vehicle rollout with the new Expert van, arriving in Australia priced from $36,490 before on-road costs.

At launch, the Expert will be available in standard- and long-body lengths, with three different powertrains depending on variant, along with the option of manual and automatic transmissions depending on variant.

Regardless of body variant or drivetrain option, all Expert models get a healthy amount of standard kit, including a raft of driver assistance and active safety technologies that are still quite rare in the commercial vehicle segments in Australia.

There's low-speed autonomous emergency braking, front and rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, speed sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, high-beam assist, a rear-view camera with 'VisioPark' that stitches together images to create a static 180-degree view of the vehicle's surroundings as you reverse, and driver attention alert.

Other standard equipment includes a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic headlights and wipers, a three-seat front bench, 16-inch steel wheels, and the company's nifty 'Moduwork' removable lower bulkhead on the passenger's side to add 1.15m of load length.

As noted above, three turbo-diesel powertrains will be available from launch depending on variant.

Base versions are powered by a Euro 6-certified BlueHDi 115 1.6-litre turbo-diesel making 85kW (@3750rpm) and 300Nm (@1750rpm), driving the front wheels exclusively via a six-speed manual.

This engine claims to use 5.2L/100km on the combined cycle, and emits 137g/km of CO2.

In terms of weights and capacities, the standard-length Expert BlueHDi 115 offers a 1000kg payload and a maximum towing capacity of 1800kg (braked). The gross vehicle mass (GVM) is 2660kg.

Mid-spec versions offer a BlueHDi 150 2.0-litre turbo-diesel that carries the older Euro 5 emissions certification, developing a beefier 110kW (@4000rpm) and 370Nm (@2000rpm).

The BlueHDi 150 motor is available with a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic, ups the payload to 1300kg, though the braked towing capacity drops to 1500kg. The GVM is between 2730kg and 3100kg depending on transmission and body variant.

Peugeot claims the Expert BlueHDi 150 uses 6.2L/100km (manual) on the combined cycle (6.3 auto, 6.4 LWB auto), and emits between 162 and 168g/km of CO2 depending on transmission and body length.

Finally, the flagship powertrain is the BlueHDi 180 2.0-litre turbo-diesel, which ups outputs to 130kW (@4000rpm) and 400Nm (@2000rpm).

This engine is mated exclusively to a six-speed automatic, and is also Euro 6 certified. Fuel use is rated at 6.2L/100km on the combined cycle, with an emissions rating of 163g/km of CO2.

Offered solely in long-length guise, the Blue HDi180 offers a GVM of 3000kg, a payload of 1250kg, and a maximum towing capacity go 2200kg.

Euro 6-certified engines feature idle stop/start technology as standard, while the Euro 5-certified Blue HDi 150 unit misses out on the fuel-saving system. The Euro 6 motors also have AdBlue tanks, which should last at least 7000km.

In terms of physical dimensions, standard length versions measure 4959/2204/1895-1935mm (L/W/H), while long-body grades increase length to 5309mm.

Regardless of body style, the wheelbase measures 3725mm, which Peugeot says helps to keep the turning circle to a constant 12.4m across the range.

Between the wheel arches in the load bay, there's 1258mm in load width, while the load length is between 2512mm and 2862mm depending on body variant. Using the Moduwork system increases load length to between 3674mm and 4024mm on the passenger side.

Load volume is rated at 5.3 cubic metres for standard body models, while the long body version ups that to 6.1 cubic metres. The Moduwork system adds 0.5 cubic metres in both cases.

According to Peugeot, all versions of the Expert can accommodate three Euro pallets in the rear.
