Google Maps to show real-time EV charge point availability

At the moment, the feature is limited to users in the USA and Europe, but it will hopefully roll out further in the near future.

Google Maps will now show whether your nearest electric charging point is occupied the USA and UK.

All users need to do is open the app on their phone, or the website on their desktop, and search for 'EV charging stations' for a live list of how many plugs are free at EVgo, SemaConnect and Chargemaster stations.

Chargepoint is a notable absence from the list, but Google says data is coming soon. Given it has more than 60,000 plugs in the USA, that should prove helpful for the growing crowd of electric vehicle owners.

Maps will also tell you what sort of connecter the charge station supports, and how fast it can actually charge. Handy, right?

Tesla Supercharger stations aren't included in the system, but have their own app.
