2019 Haval H9 pricing and specs: AEB standard range-wide

Chinese manufacturer adds essential safety tech to all versions of its ladder-frame 4x4, and also adds a new entry-level variant of its baby H2.

Haval Australia has announced a raft of upgrades to its H9 off-roader, including the standard inclusion of autonomous emergency braking with forward collision warning across the line-up.

For 2019, the Chinese SUV specialist has brought a suite of active safety tech to its flagship model in Australia, including the aforementioned AEB and FCW systems, along with adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and lane departure warning fitted as standard from the base model.

Blind-spot and rear cross-traffic systems were previously offered as part of a 2018 update, as was lane departure warning, though AEB and adaptive cruise are both new for the range locally.

The new safety features augment the already healthy level of specification included with the entry-level H9 Lux, such as tri-zone climate control, automatic xenon headlights, rain-sensing wipers an electrochromatic rear-view mirror, rear-view camera, branded puddle lights, and a selectable all-terrain control system.

Stepping up to the flagship H9 Ultra brings heated and ventilated seats with massaging function, a panoramic sunroof, 10-speaker Infinity sound system, a heated steering wheel, electric folding for the third-row seats, and adaptive headlights.

Power continues to come from a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine making 180kW and 350Nm, paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission sourced from Germany's ZF.

Despite the technology upgrades, pricing for the Haval H9 remains unchanged, with the Lux and Ultra starting at $41,990 and $45,990 drive-away respectively.

Like the wider range, the H9 is also covered by the Chinese manufacturer's seven year, unlimited kilometre warranty and five years of national roadside assistance "through the Australian Motoring Clubs".

The brand currently has 22 dealers located throughout the country, and plans to open another three in the coming months.

Beyond the H9 updates, Haval has added another entry-level variant to its smallest H2 range.

Dubbed H2 City, the new variant is essentially an automatic version as the existing H2 MT – which has since been renamed 'City'.

Priced just $1000 more than the renamed MT at $20,990 drive-away, the H2 City gets electric windows all round, 18-inch alloys, tyre pressure monitoring, daytime-running lights, electrochromatic rear-view mirror, keyless entry and start, privacy glass, and Bluetooth phone connectivity.

Haval is marketing the H2 City as Australia's most affordable SUV with a  five-star ANCAP safety rating, though it's worth noting that score has a 2017 datestamp and the H2 lacks active safety features like autonomous emergency braking.

The updated Haval H2 and H9 are on sale now.
