2012 BMW 1 Series five-door Spy Photos

As the BMW 1 Series M Coupe gears up as the last hurrah for the current generation model, a prototype of the new BMW 1 Series in five-door guise has been spotted undergoing hot weather testing in southern Italy.

The new version is expected to be slightly longer to end criticisms surrounding inadequate space for adult passengers in the rear seats, while the droopy design is expected to be tightened into something far more handsome.

BMW has already confirmed that the new BMW 1 Series would acquire its four-cylinder engine line-up from the joint-development between BMW and PSA Peugeot-Citroen, ranging from 1.4 to 2.0-litres in displacement in both naturally aspirated and turbocharged guise.

The 2012 BMW 1 Series is expected to launch in late 2011 followed by the new Coupe and Convertible variants, along with the next generation M variant some time after that.
