Buick Encore, Chevrolet Tracker revealed
New-generation SUVs and people movers headline the GM stand at this year's Shanghai motor show, though it's unclear whether we'll see similar vehicles available in global markets.
General Motors (GM) has come out strong at the 2019 Shanghai motor show, unveiling a slew of new models including the new-generation Buick Encore and the Chevrolet Tracker.
Starting with the Buick, the company's Chinese division has revealed two versions of its compact crossover, the standard Encore (top) and the long-wheelbase Encore GX (bottom).
Full details are still to come, though Buick says both will offer GM's latest 'Ecotec' engines with either a new nine-speed automatic transmission or a new CVT auto.
Buick claims the new engine and transmission options give "highly efficient power with decreased fuel consumption", certified to meet China's 6b emissions standard.
Other vehicles revealed by GM's premium division include the GL8 Avenir concept (above), previewing the company's next-generation people mover – which is currently exclusive to the Chinese market.
Buick China says the MPV concept features a front grille inspired by "rolling waves", while on the inside the seat backs have a "waterfall-type design".
Other highlights include a 12.0-inch driver's display and a 14-inch head-up display.
Chevrolet, meanwhile, was busy prepping the new Tracker (left) and Trailblazer (right) for the Shanghai event, revealed in the single image above.
The Tracker is the company's new entry-level small SUV, which the company says is "targeted at the internet generation".
On display in Shanghai is the 'Redline' specification, which features full-LED headlights, a panoramic sunroof, black badges, 17-inch black alloys, and red accents throughout the exterior and interior.
On the other hand, the new Trailblazer appears to be the next size up, not to be confused with the ute-based Holden Trailblazer sold in Australia.
Like the US-market Blazer, the Trailblazer gets split LED headlights that flow into the central trim that adorns the front grille, while "youthful aura" is bolstered by 17-inch black alloys and Redline accessories.
General Motors has big plans for the Middle Kingdom, promising more than 20 new and refreshed models between now and 2023. Chevrolet, meanwhile, says China is its second largest market globally.
Electrification was covered in the form of the Buick Velite 6 MAV (above), SAIC-GM's first mass-market electric vehicle.
Based on the 2016 Velite concept, the Velite 6 MAV is a swoopy wagon-like vehicle that's powered by a 85kW/255Nm electric motor and claims a range of up to 301km in city driving.
The Velite 6 MAV will be offered in three trim levels in China, and will also form part of the brand's partnership with Chinese car-sharing service, EVCARD. Buick's first 5000 units will be rolled out by EVCARD from April 28.
Australia
It's unclear at this stage whether we'll see similar models hitting the Australian market, though it's widely reported the Chevrolet Tracker and standard-wheelbase Buick Encore preview GM's next-generation compact crossovers for global markets.
