Preliminary Australian details for the new 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLA have been released today, ahead of its sales launch during the third quarter of 2019.

Pricing and full specifications are still to be confirmed, but first to arrive will be the CLA200, followed shortly by the CLA250 4Matic.

Standard equipment across the range is set to include the AMG Line styling package, a multi-link rear suspension setup, lowered comfort suspension, keyless access with push-button start, and 64-colour configurable ambient interior lighting.

All versions will also get sports seats as standard trimmed in suede/leatherette upholstery (black and red) or full leatherette (black and grey).

Meanwhile, available options will include the AMG Exclusive package (including adaptive dampers), the interior assistant, and energising comfort control.

This time around just the four-door coupe body will be offered Down Under, with the Shooting Brake wagon dropped from the new-generation range.

We're expecting prices to be a little higher than the current range, which kicks off at $49,400 for the entry-level CLA180 and climbing to $93,429 for the AMG CLA45 Shooting Brake.

Following the introduction of the CLA200 and CLA250 4Matic, we're expecting the new AMG CLA35 to join the range in the fourth quarter of this year, while the flagship AMG CLA45 (which is yet to be revealed as yet), should arrive sometime in 2020.

The CLA has been a pretty successful model for the company's local division, with nearly 15,000 units sold in Australia since its introduction in 2013.

Last year, the CLA outsold both the Audi A4 and BMW 3 Series, only beaten in volume by its C-Class stablemate in the premium medium car class.

Mercedes-Benz Australia says the CLA200 is the top-selling model in the current line-up, followed by the CLA250 and then the AMG CLA45, likely explaining the current rollout strategy.

Stay tuned for all the latest CLA updates in the coming months.
