2019 Toyota HiAce pricing and specs: AEB standard – UPDATE

Toyota has expanded its safety focus to the HiAce, offering autonomous emergency braking standard across the new range.

Toyota will transfer its focus on safety from cars to vans, announcing its entire HiAce range will get autonomous emergency braking as standard.

Update: Toyota Australia has added pricing details for the LWB petrol automatic and diesel manual. We've updated our chart at the bottom of the story.

That brings it into line with the Peugeot Expert (which should be first to market with the tech), Ford Transit, Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Volkswagen Crafter, and puts it a set ahead of the Hyundai iLoad and LDV G10.

Autonomous emergency braking with cyclist detection, lane-departure warning, and auto high-beam are standard across the range, along with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a reversing camera and parking sensors.

Pricing will kick off at $38,640 before on-road costs for an LWB van with a 3.5-litre petrol V6 manual, jumping to $40,640 before on-roads for a petrol with an automatic.

The 2.8-litre turbo-diesel kicks off at $42,140 before on-road costs for the manual, or $44,140 with the six-speed automatic.

Leaks reported by CarAdvice say the 2.8L diesel is borrowed from the HiLux, while the petrol is nicked from the Chinese-market Prado.

The LWB Crew Van, which gains a second row of seats, is priced from $47,140 before on-roads with the diesel engine, while the SLWB van kicks off at $48,640 with a petrol engine and automatic transmission. A diesel SLWB will set you back $52,140 before on-roads.

Finally, the Commuter. It's exclusively offered with the 2.8L diesel and an automatic, priced from $67,140 before on-road costs. The upscale GL adds $3k to that sticker.

A seven-inch infotainment system with DAB radio and a CD player is standard, with support for factory navigation and live traffic updates. A $1000 option pack adds an auto-dimming rear-view mirror capable of displaying a live camera feed from behind the van, too.

That package also brings body-coloured mirrors and bumpers, halogen fog lights, and chrome trim. It's standard on the Crew Van, which also gets curtain airbags for the second row, vents in the back, and opening rear windows.

The 12-seat commuter, meanwhile, gets niceties like cupholders and a coat hook in the reclining seat backs, along with USB charge ports, reading lights and independent controls for the rear air conditioning in the more expensive GL.

Jumping to the GL also brings about body-coloured bumpers and door handles, LED running lights, chrome trim, a power-sliding rear door, 16-inch alloy wheels, and acoustic glass.
