Kia Habaniro concept unveiled

Pure electric crossover has four butterfly doors, and is also said to have Level 5 autonomous driving capability and 480km driving range.

The Kia Habaniro was revealed overnight at the 2019 New York motor show.

Said to feature an all-electric drivetrain, the Habaniro has a driving range of over 480 kilometres (300 miles). The car has an electric motor for each axle, but Kia has not provided any power or torque figures.

Penned by the company's American design centre, the Habaniro has a flat floor, seating for four people, and access via four butterfly doors.

Fitting in with the car's name, the Habaniro has a Lava Red panel on the C-pillar and a red interior.

The Habaniro reportedly employs the Real-time Emotion Adaptive Driving system, which uses artificial intelligence to read the driver's emotional state and adjust the cabin's ambience to create a more "pleasurable and safer driving experience".

As the concept has Level 5 autonomous driving capability, the windscreen can also be used as an entertainment display.

Other tech features include an augmented reality navigation system, 180-degree rear vision camera setup, and a gesture control infotainment system.

The concept measures 4430mm long, 1600mm tall, 1955mm tall, and a 2830mm wheelbase. The Habaniro rides on 20-inch wheels with 265/50 tyres.
