BMW M850i First Edition: Australian pricing confirmed

The new limited-run coupe will touch down in June with a sticker $23k steeper than the regular M850i xDrive.

BMW will celebrate the return of the 8 Series to Australia with a run of eight First Edition coupes, priced from $295,900 before on-road costs.

That's a whopping $23,000 more than the stock M850i, although the First Edition does have exclusivity on its side. Just 400 examples will be built globally, as commemorated by the 1/400 plaque on the centre console.

It comes with a special Frozen Barcelona Blue metallic paint finish, combined with high-gloss black for the exterior brightwork. Or should that be dark work?

The car rides on 20-inch alloy wheels finished in 20-inch alloy wheels, finished in Jet Black, while the carbon roof and exterior trim package is standard fitment.

Inside, it's all about the options. BMW has dug out a set of black and white Merino Leather seats, and there's an M steering wheel for the driver to grasp. The headliner is finished in Night Blue, in keeping with the exterior finish.

The front seats are heated and ventilated, the doors are soft-close, and BMW has included the night-vision package to help its 8er early adopters cut through the dark.

With the Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system, a crystal glass gearstick and iDrive controller, there aren't really any options boxes left to be ticked.

Power comes from the same 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine offered in the 'standard' M850i xDrive, with 390kW and 750Nm put to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The 100km/h sprint takes just 3.7 seconds.
