2019 Peugeot 508 here in Q3 from $53,990
Flagship French liftback to be offered solely in flagship GT trim loaded to the hilt with luxury features and tech. The wagon will arrive before the end of the year, too.
Peugeot Citroen Australia has confirmed pricing and initial details of the all-new 2019 508 Fastback, ahead of its local launch 'early' in the third quarter of 2019.
Set to start at $53,990 before on-road costs, the 508 Fastback will form something of a halo product for the French brand, aiming to compete with everything from the Skoda Superb and Volkswagen Arteon to the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class.
Before you say "hey that's exxy", only the flagship GT variant will be offered at launch, and it'll be loaded with just about everything you can think of.
A full rundown of features and specifications will be detailed closer to launch, but we can confirm the 508 GT will come standard with the company's latest suite of driver assistance systems, including a semi-autonomous highway driving assist that incorporates adaptive cruise and lane keep assist functions, nappa leather upholstery with massaging front seats, full-LED lighting front and rear, a 12.3-inch digital driver's display, and a 10.0-inch central infotainment system with navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Power will exclusively come from the company's flagship 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, making a healthy 167kW and 300Nm, sent to the front wheels via an eight-speed torque converter automatic.
We're told the 508 GT will leave just about nothing to be desired in terms of overall specification, with the only options to be premium exterior paints and a panoramic glass sunroof. Full details will be revealed closer to the local launch.
Additionally, the French brand's local arm indicated it's expecting the 508 Touring (known as the SW in overseas markets) before the end of 2019 as well.
Pricing for the wagon is yet to be revealed, though we reckon a circa $2000 premium over the liftback is likely.
