Audi A7 Sportback release set for Munich on July 26

We first saw the A7 Sportback Concept at the Detroit Auto Show in 2009. Audi has now confirmed the official launch of the vehicle will be on July 26, in Munich.

The entry model car is expected to use a 152kW, 2.8-litre V6 engine. In the mix there's also said to be a 223kW supercharged 3.0-litre V6, up to a range-topping 4.2-litre V8, before heading into 'S' territory. As for diesel power, the A7 should be available with a 3.0-litre V6 capable of 187kW.

An S7 version is expected to use a 294kW 4.0-litre V8. The RS7, which is still under development, is said to adopt the 373kW 5.0-litre twin-turbo V10, also seen in the RS6 and A8 models although slightly re-tuned. There's also rumours of a hybrid version to be released later down the track.

Sales are expected to reach 40,000 units as Audi takes its share of the large luxury four-door coupe market. Pricing and production images are yet to be released.
