Infiniti Qs Inspiration concept unveiled in Shanghai

Latest concept vehicle previews the design language for a 'forthcoming production sports sedan', as well as the company's new electrified vehicle platform.

Infiniti has released its latest concept, the Qs Inspiration, designed to blend classic sedan proportions with a fashionable tall ride height.

According to the company, the design is inspired by Japanese modern art and architecture with "smooth, muscular spaces between sharp, sheer lines in the bodywork". The car also features short front and rear overhangs, and Nissan GT-R-style blacked out A-pillars.

The "vermillion line" in the C-pillar will apparently be carried through into future production Infinitis.

The Qs Inspiration is also said to ride on Infiniti's new electrified vehicle platform, designed specifically for hybrids and pure electric models.

Infiniti has not released any specifics about the concept's drivetrain, except to say it is fully electric with batteries mounted under the flat floor, and a "low-mounted powertrain and potent e-AWD system".

The company has raised the seating position, but not the car's body, in order to improve outward vision for the driver while retaining sedan-style driving dynamics.

For the driver there's a small rectangular steering wheel, carbon-fibre dashboard, a race car-inspired seat, red ambient lighting, a widescreen dashboard display, and a touchscreen in the centre console.

While the driver's pew is overtly sporty, the other three seats in the cabin are designed to be more relaxing and have a "lounge-like feel".

As such they're finished in white leather, with kimono-like folds, and light grey cashmere, and are surrounded soft grey carpet and door trim.

To make ingress and egress easier the car is fitted with both rear-hinged doors, and rear seats which can rotate outwards by 15 degrees. The seats can also rotate inwards by eight degrees to make conversation easier.

Between the two rear seats is a diffuser, which releases a scent inspired reminiscent of "rain hitting summer grass after a spell of hot, sunny weather".
