General Motors pause production due to Hurricane Alex

General Motors has put a stop to three more production lines in Detroit due to Hurricane Alex interrupting a parts supply from Mexico. GM is said to have already paused six other production lines due to the same interruptions.

GM's Fairfax plant near Kansas City, that builds the Chevrolet Malibu and Buick LaCrosse, stopped production on Friday and didn't operate the entire weekend. The production line is said to resume normal shifts at 9:30pm on Sunday, local time.

GM spokesman Chris Lee said production also stopped at Detroit-Hamtramck and Wentzville on Friday and isn't expected to resume until Monday, local time.

Many other Detroit car manufacturing plants have been forced to halt production due to the same severe weather conditions. Hurricane Alex skimmed Mexico's east coast last week where a large amount of critical parts are sourced from.

Chrysler paused its production of the Jeep Wrangler at its plant in Ohio and blamed the delay on the lack of parts supplied from Mexico.

Ford also said last week that orders of the new Fiesta (built in Mexico) would be interrupted due to the hurricane aftermath.
