2020 Chevrolet Corvette confirmed for July 18 debut
All-new 'C8' will make the switch to a mid-engined layout, and looks set to be auto-only when it goes on sale in the US later this year.
General Motors has confirmed the eighth-generation Chevrolet Corvette will be revealed in July, ahead of a North American market launch before the end of the year.
We've seen countless spy photos of mid-engined prototypes and heard plenty of rumours regarding what form the new car will take, and from the attached images of the camouflaged vehicle, we can see the new Corvette will indeed be mid-engined.
Chevrolet hasn't given much away about the new model, other than it will be officially revealed on July 18.
However, the rumour mill is churning over in the States. According to Car and Driver, the first Corvette model to debut will be the 'base' C8 Stingray, powered by a revised version of the current model's 6.2-litre V8.
The publication claims the powertrain will bump its power output to around 500hp (373kW), with the engine code to be renamed to 'LT2' to signify its new location within the vehicle.
Additionally, Car and Driver reports the sole transmission option will be a seven-speed automatic supplied by Tremec – goodbye manual, it seems.
Following the initial launch, Chevrolet is expected to bring out a range of hardcore versions over the coming years, including a Z06 and ZR1, along with a flagship 'Zora' that will debut hybrid technology for the nameplate.
