Andrew Moore resigns as Renault Australia managing director

The executive had been in the role since 2017, and steps down with no replacement apparent.

Andrew Moore has resigned from his role as Renault Australia managing director, after less than two years in the role.

He was appointed in September 2017, having previously headed up Suzuki Australia. According to the departing executive, his role put undue pressure on his home life.

“We have made some significant changes to the business that resulted in securing the performance while improving the financials of Renault Australia, but the challenges of this industry generate significant pressures that have impacted me and my family," he said in a statement.

"My family is my priority, and I want to devote more time to them during their younger years.”

Renault last year managed 10,018 sales, down 7.3 per cent on its 2017 result. Its figures for March are down 12.4 per cent year-to-date in 2019.

During his time at Renault, Moore appeared keen to expand the brand's product line beyond the usual range of vans, SUVs and cars.

He repeatedly spoke of his desire to get products like the Alaskan dual-cab (a twin to the Nissan Navara) and compact Duster Oroch ute to Australia, but couldn't get either across the line.

At last check, the Alaskan was still on the table for early in 2020 but not confirmed.

"Duster Oroch, what is confirmed is that we can't get it as soon as that, but we're still pushing – along with some other markets – for it to be developed right-hand drive," he said at Motorclassica in October 2018.

"We have made some progress and pushed our business case for that vehicle, but it wouldn't be any earlier than around 2021, maybe late 2020, because there's capacity constraints at the current Oroch factory."

No successor has been announced at Renault, but Xavier Kaufmann, the current Renault director of after sales, network and service quality for Asia-Pacific will step up in the interim.
