2020 Mercedes-Benz EQ B spied

This is the first look we've had at Mercedes-Benz's upcoming compact electric people mover. It's expected to have a 500km range when it launches.

Mercedes-Benz's practical plug-in, the 2020 EQ B, has been spied testing alongside the EQ C on snowy roads.

Although we've seen what look like plug-in hybrid B-Class models in past, this is the first time our spy photographers have managed to snap a pure-electric model. How do we know? The big sticker saying 'electric' on the windscreen is only applied to electric Mercedes prototypes, for one.

It's also wearing much more camouflage than some of the previous B-Class mules we've photographed, suggesting this car is earlier in its development cycle.

Although it's early days, we're expecting the EQ B to offer around 500km of range, thanks in part to a focus on aerodynamics. We're expecting a new snout inspired by that of the EQ C, the requisite smattering of LED light bars, and some fresh gloss black detailing around the exterior.

Along with the pure electric model, a plug-in hybrid B-Class is expected to debut later this year. It will offer around 100km of range, according to industry scuttlebutt, putting it well ahead of the current crop of PHEV SUVs and their circa-50km range offerings.

Stay tuned for more on the EQ B in the lead up to its launch.
