2021 Volkswagen Caddy spied
Next-generation van is spotted for the first time, and likely uses the modern MQB architecture as its basis.
The replacement for the long-lived third-generation Volkswagen Caddy, which debuted back in 2003, has been spied undergoing testing in Europe.
Even with every panel, except the roof, camouflaged it's obvious the new van will prioritise cargo over fashion.
Up front the new Caddy has a closed-off upper grille, modern-looking headlights, and a radar unit for the vehicle's various safety systems.
According to the spy photographers, the new van features sliding doors on both sides. At the rear, the tail-light arrangement seems to be a thin vertical stack that reaches high up the car.
The next-generation Caddy is believed to ride on the MQB platform for front- and all-wheel drive cars with a transversely mounted engine.
It's understood the Caddy will be offered in at least two lengths, with the vehicle seen here being the smallest.
There's also talk a passenger van variant will one day replace the Sharan people mover in Volkswagen's range.
A selection of petrol and diesel engines will once again be offered. It's possible a mild hybrid variant may also be offered in the future.
