Volkswagen ID Roomzz concept previewed

Latest electric concept previews a 'full-size' crossover, which will go on sale in China from 2021 before becoming available in other parts of the world.

The Volkswagen ID Roomzz concept will make its debut at the 2019 Shanghai motor show, which takes place in the middle April.

The Roomzz looks set to be the largest concept car based on the Volkswagen Group's MEB electric car platform.

According to Volkswagen, the ID Roomzz previews a "full-size" family-friendly crossover. Due to go into production from 2021, the new model will go on sale in China first before becoming available in other markets.

So far the company has only provided sketches revealing the car's front and side, as well as its headlight layout.

The automaker promises the car will feature "new seat configurations, high-quality materials and customisable light" options.

The concept is also said to feature Level 4 autonomous driving technology, which allows the vehicle to drive itself without any active involvement or input from the person in the driver's seat.

Volkswagen is currently preparing its first mainstream electric car, based on the original ID concept, for production.

Due to be launched in production guise later this year, the five-door hatch will be around the size of Golf and spearheads the company's aggressive push into the world of electric vehicles.
