McLaren Senna: Full scale Lego model revealed

British supercar gets Lego-fied in nearly 500,000 individual pieces that took around 5000 hours to complete. It's even got working lights and an operation infotainment system.

McLaren Automotive has unveiled a very special version of its Senna track monster, which has been made entirely out of Lego.

The full-scale 1:1 model took nearly 5000 hours to assemble, according to the British supercar specialist, and comprises of 467,854 individual Lego components put together by a team of 42 men and women from the Lego build team.

Interestingly, the Lego Senna is actually rather heavy – at 1700kg, it's around 500kg more than the production car.

The company says the time it took to assemble the Lego model is equivalent to the time it would take to produce nine actual Senna vehicles.

Various parts of the model are actually functional, too, including the lights and infotainment system, while pressing the start button in the roof plays a simulation of the production car's 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 "roaring to life".

Inside, the Lego Senna features the carbon-fibre driver's seat, steering wheel and pedals from the production car, adding to the real McLaren badges and production-spec Pirelli tyres.

This isn't the first time the manufacturer has partnered with the Danish toy brand, either. In 2017 McLaren and Lego presented a 1:1 scale model of the 720S, while there's numerous McLaren kits in the Lego catalogue past and present.

McLaren will present the Lego-built Senna at various events throughout the year, including the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July.
