Ford Bronco will have removable doors, roof – report

Revived SUV model looks set to take on the successful, and highly profitable, Jeep Wrangler.

US dealers were given a preview of the new Ford Bronco at an event held in Palm Springs, Florida, last month.

After handing in their phones and photography equipment, the dealers were reportedly shown a two-door version of the new Bronco.

Dealers who spoke to Automotive News confirmed the car will have round headlights, a rectangular grille, prominent Bronco branding, and a retro design theme.

It will have doors which can be taken off and stored in the boot, and a removable hard-top roof. Unlike the Jeep Wrangler, the Bronco's wing mirrors are attached to the A-pillar instead of the doors.

The new Bronco will ride on the same platform as the Ranger ute and Everest SUV, and will be built at the Michigan Assembly Plant alongside the Ranger.

The publication's sources also confirmed Ford plans to launch two- and four-door versions of the new Bronco, which will be available in the States in the latter half of 2020.

Two other crossovers were shown to the invited dealers: a new Escape-based crossover with Bronco-influenced styling (above), which goes on sale some time in 2020, and a Mustang-inspired electric crossover with a range of over 480 kilometres.

A third model was also talked about the dealer meeting: a small car-based ute available from 2021.
