Ford Fiesta, Focus mild-hybrid models confirmed for Europe – UPDATE

New models will feature a 1.0-litre turbo engine paired with an integrated starter/generator and a 48V battery pack, but they're not coming to Australia.

The Ford Fiesta EcoBoost Hybrid and Ford Focus EcoBoost Hybrid models have been announced for the European market.

UPDATE, 27/03/19: Ford Australia says it has "no announcements on Fiesta Hybrid or Focus Hybrid at this stage".

Both models feature a 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine with a belt-driven integrated starter/generator in place of the regular alternator.

The integrated starter/generator recovers energy typically lost during braking and coasting, and stores it in a new air-cooled 48V lithium-ion battery pack.

Additionally the starter/generator works as a motor to provide a torque boost. This, Ford says, has allowed it to fit a larger turbocharger to the 1.0-litre engine to increase power output.

According to Ford, the Fiesta mild-hybrid will have a fuel economy rating of 4.9L/100km, while the larger Focus mild-hybrid is said to drink just 4.7L/100km.

The company has yet to announce overall power and torque figures, nor do we have any indication about pricing or performance numbers.

Further details about the new mild-hybrid models are likely to surface at an event Ford has planned for the beginning of April.

Note: Non-hybrid models shown.
