2020 Mercedes-AMG CLA45 spied
Upcoming performance 'coupe' seen during cold weather testing, wearing typical AMG bits over the standard CLA body.
The next-generation Mercedes-AMG CLA45 has been spotted in snowy Europe this week, ahead of an anticipated reveal before the end of the year.
Looking at this pre-production prototype, there's not a whole lot of surprises in terms of the design. The basic shape of the new CLA is there, but with beefed-up AMG bits.
Up front is a more aggressive bumper and gaping Panamericana grille, while the rear sees a prominent diffuser treatment with a quad-tipped exhaust.
The wheels on this vehicle appear to be stand-ins, though the massive brakes behind them should be indicative of the final production model.
What will really separate the CLA45 from its non-AMG brethren will be what's under the bonnet – a high-output 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine in two states of tune.
It's believed the 'standard' AMG CLA45 will make around 383hp (285kW), while the flagship AMG CLA45 S will put out 416hp (310kW). All that grunt will be sent through a performance oriented 4Matic all-wheel drive system, and a dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The CLA45 should also get a 'Drift Mode' like the related A45, along with unique displays in the infotainment interface and drive modes. We'd expect sports seats and AMG-specific trims to feature, too.
We're expecting the AMG CLA45 to be revealed before the end of the year, ahead of a 2020 sales launch.
