Kia ‘XCeed’ to be revealed ‘later in 2019’

Following a no-show at the Geneva motor show, Kia Europe has indicated it will unveil the fourth member of its small car family in the coming months.

Kia Europe has confirmed its upcoming crossover based on the Ceed hatchback will debut later in the year, though hasn't revealed its official name just yet.

A new press release accompanied by the above sketch that was published a month ago quotes Gregory Guillaume, Kia Europe's vice president of design.

"There’s another style, another type of vehicle, that we feel very strongly deserves to be a new member of the Ceed family," he said.

"It will the play the role that’s needed to make the Ceed range stronger and even more exciting, more appealing, to European consumers."

"The design will be nothing like you’ve seen in the Ceed family so far. This will be the next big surprise from Kia," he added.

According to the press release, the new crossover will be "named and revealed later in 2019".

It's widely rumoured that the model will be named 'XCeed', while recent reports indicate the available powertrains and technology should mirror that of the existing Ceed and Proceed range.

As for whether it'll make it to Australia, Kia's local communications boss, Kevin Hepworth, recently told CarAdvice we will get a 'different car' currently being developed for the Asia-Pacific and North America.

Scheduled to launch Down Under before the end of the year, the new compact SUV model, unofficially known as the 'Tusker' (above), will be there production version of the SP concept shown at last year's New Delhi motor show.
