Seat Leon Cupra R ST revealed for Europe

Limited-edition all-wheel drive performance wagon comes as standard with 220kW, but can be upgraded to 272KW for the equivalent of $938 in the UK.

Seat, Spanish subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, has unveiled an exclusive version of its small sports wagon, named the Leon Cupra R ST.

Limited to 150 units in the UK, the Leon Cupra R ST is essentially a twin-under-the-skin to the Volkswagen Golf R wagon, powered by a 220kW/400Nm 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine hooked up to a seven-speed DSG automatic and 4Drive all-wheel drive.

In standard trim, the Cupra R ST can dash from 0-100 in just 4.9 seconds on its way to a top speed of 155mph (250km/h).

Owners are able to specify a power upgrade courtesy of tuning firm, ABT, which boosts power to 370PS (272kW), dropping the 0-100 claim to a sports car-rivalling 4.5 seconds.

Headlining the specification sheet are 19-inch alloys, quad exhaust tips, Brembo front brakes, sports bucket front seats, a panoramic sunroof, copper and carbon-fibre exterior accents, along with ABT badging for vehicles with the optional ABT package.

"In order to improve cornering speed and handling performance, new uprights have been added to the front axle that modifies the negative camber (2º); the rear negative camber is also at 2º," Seat says in its press release.

Pricing starts at £37,975 ($71,233.63) on the road in the UK, though given the Seat brand isn't offered in Australia, we don't expect to see any of these hot wagons on local roads anytime soon. Shame.

Would you buy the Leon Cupra R ST if it was available in Australia?
