Kia global sales exceed 1 million

Kia has revealed its sales figures for June 2010 and they show an increase in sales of 16.2 percent compared to the same month last year. 184,111 units, including passenger cars, light off-roaders and commercial vans and trucks were sold in the month.

The best selling model for last month, globally, was the Kia C-segment Cerato, which went home to 33,803 buyers. Interestingly, it only took the first half of this year for Kia to penetrate through the international production figure of one-million; 1,004,724 units. This is an increase of 34.1 percent compared to last year.

Hyoung-Keun Lee, President of Kia Motors Corporation, said in the recent report,

"I am encouraged to see sales of Kia vehicles around the world eclipse the 1 million unit annual mark faster than ever before in our company's history. All of our major markets are now gearing up for retail sales of the completely redesigned and reengineered Sportage CUV, which will certainly add to our momentum and help continue strong sales for the brand in the second half of the year."

The figures prove Kia is doing something right. The South Korean manufacturer may have started out with a weak entrance into the Australian market back in 1986, and was quickly labelled as a cheap and nasty car maker. These days, anything to come from that part of the world is backed by the fresh and uprising development that Asia represents. Even Kia's emergence with Hyundai has made the production of a huge vehicle testing centre in California possible.

Their cars may be a little cheaper than the competitors', but all the sales revenue has to go somewhere. Are South Korean cars much better than they used to be? Would you now buy a Kia or Hyundai even though you may have never previously considered it?
