Taiwan’s LUXGEN7 MPV EV+ ready for production

Paying credit where it’s due, the latest offering from Taiwanese automaker LUXGEN Motors is a truly remarkable vehicle from a company that launched just 18 months ago.

The LUXGEN7 MPV EV+ – co-developed with EV pioneer, AC Propulsion – claims to be the world’s first seven-passenger electric vehicle.

Propelled by a 177kW/265Nm AC induction motor, the EV+ has a range of 350km on a single charge when travelling at an average speed of 40km/h thanks to its lithium-ion battery pack.

It can do the quicker stuff too, going from 0-100km/h in 8.6 seconds and reaching a top speed of 145km/h.

LUXGEN has equipped the EV+ with regenerative braking to further extend its range while LUXGEN says the battery pack is also capable of discharging excess electricity back into the power grid to balance electricity utilisation during peak and off-peak times.

LUXGEN is yet to announce pricing or specifications for the EV+ (which derives its platform from the Renault Espace) but has confirmed that it is ready for mass production.

Prices for the petrol-powered MPV range from NT$798,000 ($28,500) to NT$1,068,000 ($38,100). Features on that vehicle include electronic stability control, a voice-controlled onboard Windows CE computer, GPS navigation, and a 3.5G mobile internet connection.
