2020 Mercedes-AMG GLS63 spied

Even with plenty of disguise, the next-generation crossover isn't afraid to advertise the V8 engine under its bonnet.

Last spied around this time last year, the next-generation Mercedes-AMG GLS63 is now wearing fewer false body panels, but is still heavily disguised.

Although the prototype is clad from head to toe in camouflage, we can see the new GLS will have a unique set of body panels compared to the closely related GLE.

As with previous iterations of the GLS – or GL as it was previously known – the new car has a longer wheelbase, significantly larger rear doors, and a more upright tailgate than its smaller sibling, freeing up more interior space (and granting the car a more imposing presence on the road).

With its low-profile tyres, large wheels, hunkered down stance, and four exhaust tips, the GLE63 looks positively mean.

Although lesser models in the GLS range will be available with six-cylinder engines, and probably plug-in hybrid drivetrains, the GLS63 will likely continue with AMG's 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8.

While the company has yet to announce any details regarding the next-generation GLS, we can safely assume it will feature all of the company's latest safety equipment, as well as its MBUX touchscreen infotainment system.

The vehicle pictured here has forward facing cameras in the windscreen, and a panoramic sunroof.
