McLaren 720S Spider gets MSO’d for Geneva

Another bespoke McLaren has been revealed for the 2019 Geneva motor show, complete with blue-themed appointments inside and out.

McLaren Special Operations (MSO) has revealed a bespoke version of the 720S Spider at the Geneva motor show, which the company says "emphasises the cutting-edge aerodynamics" of the drop-top variant.

Finished in a main coat of Meteorite Grey, the 720S Spider by MSO features accents that use a tri-tone paint, dubbed Coriolis, in the aero work – Cerulean Blue, Burton Blue and Abyss Black.

These accents adorn areas like the lower front bumper, headlight surrounds, mirrors, side skirts, rear wing, and rear bumper.

McLaren says the tri-tone-painted elements took "in excess" of 260 hours to complete, applied to individual body panels "to emulate the flow of air over the 720S Spider’s aerodynamic body while the car is moving".

Inside, there's specially-developed Burton Blue Alcantara accents throughout the cabin, contrasting with the Jet Black leather surfaces.

All the primary and secondary interior components are finished in carbon-fibre, with the option of exposed carbon-fibre for the Monocage II-S passenger cell structure.

There's also gloss carbon seatbacks, MSO Bespoke branding on the accelerator pedal, dedication plaque, floor mats and headrests, along with a tri-tone key fob.

Other MSO bits include a gloss carbon-fibre tonneau cover, 10-spoke super lightweight forged alloys in Abyss Black gloss finish, Burton Blue brake calipers, extended carbon exterior accents (rear deck, diffuser, B-pillars), a sports exhaust, the Electrochromic glass roof panel option, and the Stealth Pack – bringing 'darker finish' to the exhaust, airbrake mechanism, exterior window surrounds along with the oil cap cover panel.

"We wanted the 720S Spider by MSO to have a refined and stylish feel to complement the car’s exceptional breadth of abilities and we feel we have achieved this," said Ansar Ali, managing director for McLaren Special Operations.

"It is the perfect demonstration of how the diversity of MSO’s skills base and our commitment to craftsmanship can subtly alter a car’s character. We are constantly developing new techniques to frame McLaren cars in ways to meet our customer’s inspirations, whatever they may be."

Like the 'standard' model, the 720S Spider by MSO is powered by a 720PS (577kW) 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, good for a 2.9-second 0-100 sprint on its way to a top speed of 341km/h – or 325km/h with the roof down.
