2019 Hyundai i30 Fastback N pricing and specs

Liftback version of Korean hot hatch kicks off at $41,990, with virtually identical specification to its twin under the skin.

Hyundai Australia has confirmed pricing and specifications for the new i30 Fastback N, which kicks off $1500 dearer than its hatchbacked sibling.

Priced from $41,990 before on-road costs, the i30 Fastback N differs from the hatchback in obvious ways like the sedan-like liftback body, along with a new chassis and suspension tune that is a little softer – this setup will be carried over to the hatchback at some point in the future, too.

Hyundai says the swoopy coupe-style body brings a 7.0 per cent reduction in aerodynamic drag compared to the hatchback, which might explain the fractionally quicker 0-100 claim (6.1 seconds v 6.2 seconds).

Like the hatch, the i30 Fastback N will be available solely with the 'Performance Package' in Australia, meaning power comes from the higher-output 2.0-litre turbo four making 202kW (@6000rpm) and 353Nm (@1450-4700rpm) as standard.

Drive is sent to the front wheels via a six-speed manual only (dual-clutch auto is on track for a late 2019 launch, though), with top speed electronically limited to 250km/h.

As per the hatch too, the Fastback's powertrain has an overboost function that bumps peak torque to 378Nm for up to 18 seconds.

Key features include Launch Control, a rev-matching function for the manual transmission (which can be switched off if desired), adaptive dampers with electronic controlled suspension, an 8.0-inch touchscreen with satellite navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an electronically-controlled limited-slip front differential, an active exhaust system, rear stiffness bar, adjustable drive modes, and 19-inch alloy wheels with Pirelli P Zero tyres.

There's also sports seats with 'N' logos, red stitching throughout the cabin, an N sports steering wheel with N button, sequential gearshift lights in the driver's instrument cluster, metal sports pedals, along with driver assistance features like autonomous emergency braking, driver attention warning, and lane-keep assist.

Like the hatch, the Fastback will be offered with two option packs, aptly named the Luxury Pack ($3000) and Luxury Pack with Panoramic Sunroof ($5000).

The former adds front and rear parking sensors, LED courtesy lighting, automatic wipers, 12-way power adjustment for the front sports seats, which now get suede inserts and leather bolsters, front seat cushion extension for the passenger, heated front seats and steering wheel, solar control windscreen glass, privacy glass at the rear, Qi wireless phone charger, keyless entry with push-button start, and an electrochromatic rear-view mirror.

Opting for the Luxury Pack with Panoramic Sunroof adds... well, a panoramic sunroof.

Beyond the optional packages, metallic or mica paint finishes will also add $495 to the asking price.

Servicing for the i30 Fastback N is required every 12 months or 10,000km, whichever comes first, with the first five visits costing $299, $299, $299, $399 and $299 – adding for a total of $1595 over the first 60 months or 50,000km.

The Fastback N is also covered by Hyundai's five year, unlimited kilometre warranty, which also covers race track use for non-competition events – including the fitment of track tyres like semi-slicks.

Pricing for the i30 N hatchback has been bumped up by $500 for the new model year, too ($40,490 plus ORCs).
