Hispano Suiza Carmen unveiled
Developed in Barcelona, the Carmen mixes a retro body with an all-electric powertrain delivering 750kW of power to the rear wheels.
The Hispano Suiza Carmen has made its debut this week at the 2019 Geneva motor show.
The Carmen features two electric motors, one for each rear wheel, making a total of 750kW of power. Thanks to body panels and monocoque made from carbon-fibre, the Carmen is said to weigh just 1690 kilograms.
Hispano Suiza says the Carmen is capable of completing the 0-100km/h dash in under 3.0 seconds, with a top speed of 250km/h.
According to the company, the Carmen's body is inspired by the 1938 Dubonnet Xenia. Like the classic car, the Carmen's rear wheels are fenced in by body work.
On the inside, the Carmen mixes retro touches – like hand-sewn leather seats, real wood trim and machined aluminium – with modern elements, such as a customisable digital instrumentation screen, electric seat adjustment and suede fabric.
The Carmen is one of two vehicles unveiled with the Hispano Suiza name at the 2019 Geneva motor show. The other was Maguari HS1 GTC developed by a Swiss company founded by designers Erwin Leo Himmel and Olivier Boulay.
While the Carmen is an all-electric vehicle with a design nod to the past, the Maguari has a more modern body and a Lamborghini-sourced V10 engine.
