Peugeot 508 Sport Engineered: ‘We ARE going to make it’

That's right, Peugeot's CEO has confirmed the hybrid sports car is going to make production. Turns out Elon Musk isn't the only executive using Twitter to confirm future product.

Peugeot has confirmed it'll build the hotted-up, hybrid 508 Sport Engineered revealed as a concept at the Geneva motor show.

Responding to a journalist saying there's a "slim chance" it'll build the quick 508 on Twitter, Jean-Philippe Imparato, CEO of Peugeot, responded with a fairly emphatic "It's not a slim chance... We ARE going to make it!".

Right then. Consider it green lit, and all that. Although details about the production car haven't been officially revealed, the concept certainly suggests it'll be something special.

It teams a 'PureTech 200' 150kW turbocharged petrol engine with an 82kW electric motor on the front axle, while an additional 150kW electric motor drives the rear wheels, giving the performance sedan all-wheel drive.

Peugeot claims it'll hit 100km/h in just 4.3 seconds, and will continue pulling on to an electrically-limited 250km/h top speed.

Electric power comes from an 11.8kWh battery pack, allowing for a zero-emissions driving range of up to 31 miles (50km) on the WLTP test cycle.

On the design front, the Sport Engineered has been treated to bumpers with 3D-printed elements, a rear diffuser, winglets on the quarter panels, carbon-fibre side mirrors, special 'Selenium Grey' paint, and an anodised finish for the lion badge first seen on the e-Legend concept.

Inside, there's 'comfort fit' seats trimmed in leather and Alcantara with Kryptonite green and Onyx Black top-stitching, extended Alcantara trim on the steering wheel and gear selector, along with the headlining.

There's also Kryptonite coloured-trim adorning the door handles and dashboard, along with featuring in the interface for the 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and 10.0-inch central touchscreen.

"Electrification provides a marvellous opportunity to develop new driving sensations," said Jean-Philippe Imparato, CEO for the Peugeot brand.

"We are creating a "neo-performance", new energy sources, new features, new territories, new challenges....sheer pleasure for only 49g of CO2/km."
