Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Roadster headed to Geneva – report

A new report out of the US reckons the Italian marque is prepping a Roadster version of its V12-engined halo. While not officially confirmed by Lamborghini, you can expect it to offer a near-identical package to the SVJ coupe, with the exception of a removable carbon-fibre roof.

It appears Lamborghini is planning a pretty significant reveal for the Geneva motor show later this week, specifically a drop-top version of its Aventador SVJ flagship (coupe pictured).

American publication Carscoops claims it has unnamed sources telling it the Raging Bull will bring the Aventador SVJ Roadster to the Swiss event, complete with all the mechanical and aerodynamic upgrades already seen in the coupe, though with a removable carbon-fibre roof.

The lightweight roof panels weigh around 6kg each, and should be able to be stored in the front luggage area, as per the current Aventador S Roadster.

Despite the slight weight penalty that comes with a convertible body – not just the roof components, but also the additional structural reinforcements required to maintain the Aventador's rigidity – there shouldn't be a marked performance difference between the Roadster and its hard-topped twin.

As per the coupe, power will come from a naturally-aspirated 6.5-litre V12 making 566kW (770hp) and 720Nm.

Currently, Lamborghini claims the coupe will dash from 0-100 in 2.8 seconds, 0-200 in 8.6 seconds, and hit a vmax of "more than 350km/h".

Like its coupe sibling, the SVJ Roadster will feature an array of mechanical, cosmetic and aerodynamic upgrades, including the company's new Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva 2.0 technologies – think optimise air inlets and channel designs, active flaps in the front splitter, and an aero-vectoring function for the channels that push air through the rear wing.

There will also be model-specific Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres, new displays in the all-digital instrument cluster, recalibrated transmission and steering systems, along with a wide range of cabin upholsteries and trim inserts to choose from.
