Ginetta supercar revealed

Performance promises to be as extreme as its looks, and its pricing will ensure that it will be a rare beast indeed.

Ginetta has unveiled its new, as-yet unnamed, supercar ahead of its public debut at the 2019 Geneva motor show.

The Leeds-based firm has confirmed to Autocar the vehicle will be powered by dry-sump 6.0-litre V8, which was developed in-house and is milled from a single block of aluminium.

Making around 450kW (600hp) of power and 705Nm of torque, the V8 is pushed to the back of the engine bay and drives the rear wheels through a Ginetta-designed six-speed sequential transmission.

Thanks to carbon-fibre body panels wrapped around a carbon-fibre tub, the supercar weighs just 1150 kilograms and has a claimed a top speed of 322km/h (200mph).

Ginetta's supercar has double wishbone suspension at both ends, and rides on 19-inch wheels with 275/35 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres at the front, and 20-inch rims with 305/30 rubber at the back.

Measuring 4640mm long, the Ginetta supercar has a claimed 49:51 front-to-rear weight distribution, and brakes with Alcon carbon discs.

The designers placed aerodynamic performance ahead of classical beauty, and logged many hours at the Williams wind tunnel to refine the car's planes, ducts, wings and diffusers.

Standard features will include climate control, automatic headlights, a reversing camera, electronic parking brake, satellite navigation, traction control, ABS, and a boot that can swallow two full-size golf bags.

Production of the new supercar begins at the end of 2019, and the car will be priced from below £400,000 ($722,000) in the UK.

When the factory is up to full speed, the company aims to produce 30 to 50 cars per year. So far Ginetta has taken orders for 14 vehicles already.
